May 2017 Field work starts for Zambia Tourism Development Plans

Jim Fletcher, Tourism Partner for Arc Consulting Partners starts work in the field on the intial stages of the ‘Zambia National Tourism Master Plan’, financial support for which has been provided to the Government of Zambia/Ministry of Tourism and Arts by the EU.

This involves a situational analysis geared to producing a SWOT analysis of the tourism sector, a review of performance of the tourism industry over the last ten years; an analysis of the effects of the global macro-economic environment on the growth and development of the country’s tourism industry.

Following the detailed situation analysis, the consultants will prepare a NTMP for Zambia for the period 2018 to 2038. Furthermore, the NTMP will provide detailed information on infrastructure requirements for tourism development, investment requirements, opportunities and challenges for both local and foreign investors. The plan will also address constraints relevant to major stakeholders such as policy makers, local and private investors, local communities, traders, support institutions, and tourism related enterprises.

Based on the NTMP, the consultancy will develop Specific Tourism Development Plans in a selected number of localities (Livingstone area, Samfya Beach, Kasaba Bay, South and North Luangwa, Lower Zambezi, Lusaka, Zambezi Source, destination development plans).

The consultancy team comprises : a Team Leader/Sustainable Tourism Development Expert, a Tourism Spatial/Physical Planning Expert and Jim as Tourism Economist
