Background: Jim is a graduate of London University and a tourism economist with over 35 years’ experience of working in the tourism and hospitality sectors. He has worked in marketing with Centre Hotels, in development with the English Tourist Board, in hotel and tourism consultancy with Pannell Kerr Forster and Horwath and Horwath, developed a new tourism and hospitality team in Economic Studies Group within the engineering consultants High Point Rendel before setting up his own consultancy firm Fletcher Associates.
He has directed, led and advised upon a wide range of assignments with private sector developers and investors, governments, international development banks, agencies and donor organisations such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB), United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and World Bank (WB) in over 80 countries across the UK, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Caribbean.
Tourism Specialist within a multi-sectoral team drawn up by the Asian Development Bank to identify and appraise issues, opportunities and investments within the proposed Almaty-Bishkek Corridor Initiative
Prepared a visioning strategy for an agri-tourism development on behalf of a leading private sector agricultural company in Tabuk, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Led a UNWTO Regional Tourism Statistics Workshop for the Mekong River Countries of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, in Siem Reap, Cambodia
Undertook Technical Assistance Missions on tourism statistics and the introduction of the Tourism Satellite Account in Albania, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Qatar, Ethiopia and Sri Lanka on behalf of the UNWTO
Tourism Development Economist for the WS Atkins team on the Al Gharbia 2030 Long Range Economic Development Plan on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council
